Search engines have little program called ‘spiders’ which visit websites. It indexes it and moves on. Most websites don’t change so search engines don’t visit them very often.

Blog sites are different. They change when ever you blog. And when you blog you send a request to the search engine to visit you again. It’s like flies served up to their ‘spiders’. They know that there is something new and they come to index it.

So what? Every time a ‘spider’ returns to your website they increase your page rank, your ranking in the search engine and therefore increasing your traffic to your website.

Why Flash hurts.

Here is a website done entirely in Flash. It’s fancy, so fancy that it took almost a minute to load over a high-speed Internet connection. And that was just for the introduction. Then almost another 30 seconds to the main content. I’ve blurred some of the elements in the picture to avoid embarrassing the company.

Many many webdesign companies do this. It’s very common. They do the fanciest website they can and they are good at it, but the sad thing is that the search engines do not see any of it. The text you see isn’t text, it a flash animation. It’s all a big blob because there is no text just flash animation.

Small business heck even mid-size business need to convert people into customers. It’s all about conversion. Flash websites are not good a converting. You want to convert and make money.
